We are far past the conversation of what if? for the Sooners in 2009.  What’s done is done.  OU has almost drowned in a series of bad injuries and their backups haven’t been capable of keeping this team in the national hunt.  So here were are 9 games in and Oklahoma is 5-4.

OU has three games left.  They host Texas A&M this Saturday on FSN (6pm).  If OU doesn’t win this game, they will not make a bowl.  And I’m quite serious.  I don’t think I’m going out on a limb here at all.  If they drop a HOME game against the Aggies and break the nation’s longest current home win-streak (28, a school record), would you favor them winning either of their last 2? One in Lubbock and then Bedlam in Norman?  That would seem very presumptuous after the Sooners offense short-circuited against Nebraska last Saturday. I certainly don’t see this offense outscoring the Red Raiders out in the West Plains.  And OSU will be smelling a Bedlam victory given the events of this season….  Zac Robinson in his last game as a Cowboy in Norman – has the makings of a very teary-eyed sendoff for the Sooners’ Seniors.  Losses in those 2 games, and OU is amongst the 1/3 of the D-1 teams that won’t be in a bowl game IF they should stumble Saturday night against the Aggies.  What a difference a year makes.

Defense will still keep Oklahoma in every game…. and they have so far.  But a thin and getting much thinner offensive line doesn’t give an inexperienced quarterback much of a chance.  Especially against a D-Line like the Huskers have and showed last week. Quarterback Landry Jones has shown that if given time, he is very accurate and makes pretty good decisions.  But given the recent season-ending injuries on the O-Line (Jarvis Jones, Brody Eldridge) the redshirt Freshman QB will need to figure it out very soon. If not,  OU will miss a bowl for the first time since 1998.

Yikes.

Prediction:  Sooners find a way 31-20 over the Aggies. A nip and tuck game that the Defense seals at the end.
