Defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, the No. 2 overall recruit in the country according to ESPNU, announced Friday morning that he will sign with Texas. Jeffcoat had narrowed down his finalists to Texas, Oklahoma and Houston, where his dad is the defensive line coach.
So Lane Kiffin bails on Rocky Top after just one 7-6 season, setting off a firestorm in Knoxville. It was announced that Kiffin will be the new head coach at USC after Pete Carroll decided to head for the Seattle Seahawks. According to several internet rumors and reports, the Vols have targeted Texas defensive coordinator/head coach-in-waiting designate Will Muschamp as their preferred #1 choice. Muschamp’s name comes up often when these types of positions open up, especially when an opening appears in the SEC. Muschamp played at Georgia and coached at Auburn and LSU. So he has strong ties to the south and experience navigating the brutal SEC schedules. But, Muschamp is usually quick to point out that he is very happy and content in Austin whenever his name is mentioned for an opening.

Texas vs. Alabama. It certainly has a good, old fashioned ring to it…… Love ‘em or hate ‘em. Either school. If Texas wins, they could (gulp) be remembered, on paper, as the decade’s best program in the college football landscape. And if you look at it, as I said “on paper”, it’s not too much of a debate. If Texas wins they’ll have the only 2 undefeated seasons of the decade as National Champions. (Boise St. also had 2 undefeated seasons). If Bama wins, we’ll have to hear their alumni shout annoying and mythic claims of THIRTEEN!!! If ABC tells you that Alabama has 12 national titles coming in, you know they printed it from the Crimson Tide media booklet.
Did Bob Stoops help Bama prepare for Texas? Read Pat Forde’s column (link below), and you can decide.

As much as we here at BSN would like to see it, believe, or hear of it – it’s not going to happen. We’re talking about, of course, a Husker upset of the Texas Longhorns. Texas has the seasoned, senior QB (and perhaps Heisman Trophy winner), a defense that is just as talented as Nebraska and one, big massive chip on its’ shoulder to avenge “2008″ and all that BCS mess with the Sooners. But the primary problem is that Nebraska’s offense is, well, it doesn’t have a whole lot of weapons or threats to score on any play.
Curtis Brown and Earl Thomas each returned interceptions for touchdowns, and Cody Johnson had two short TD runs as the No. 3 Longhorns routed No. 13 Oklahoma State 41-14 on Saturday night to establish themselves as the clear frontrunner in the Big 12 South.
Texas at OSU: Offense, Offense, Offense. Both teams can go up and down the field. It won’t be a track meet but this will not be a slobbernocker. Although, Colt McCoy had a big stat line last week in the Missouri game…. his job was made easy by the 200 yards of blanket coverage provided by the Tigers awful secondary each play. You can’t do that with those receivers. OSU’s secondary isn’t much better but they won’t give up the dinks and dunks and find themselves down 21-0 before blinking an eye.
