Conference Realignment Talk: OU and OSU to the SEC?

Posted in Big 12, OSU, OU, SEC on February 17th, 2010 by BSN

Perhaps you have heard all the drama/rumors/speculation about Texas moving to the Big 10 or the Pac-10.  Word is that Texas and the Big 10 have conducted preliminary “talks” and that the Pac-10 has Texas squarely on the ‘expansion’ radar.  Just go a quick google search on “Texas to Big 10″ and you will see numerous articles and varying opinions on the subject.  It’s probably not going to happen, as Texas has it really, really good right now in the Big 12 from a dollars perspective as well as on the field.  But the talk of conference re-alignment has largely left OU and OSU alone, until now.  At least from one writer’s perspective (Andy Staples: SI’s Inside College Football), he proposes the creation of four super conferences with OU and OSU possibly getting the toughest draw – a shift to the SEC.

QB Alex Cate leaves Oklahoma State

Posted in OSU on February 12th, 2010 by BSN

Quarterback Alex Cate has left the Oklahoma State football program, a source close to the program confirmed to The Oklahoman on Thursday. It is unclear where the senior-to-be from Cottonwood, Utah plans to finish his collegiate career. Despite spending much of the 2009 season at Zac Robinson’s backup, Cate likely decided his chances of playing would increase if he chose to play elsewhere in 2010. Cate started in the place of an injured Robinson on Nov. 19 against Colorado but when the Cowboys offense struggled in the first half, Cate was replaced by Brandon Weeden, who led OSU to a 31-28 comeback win. Report: UH’s Holgorsen heading to Oklahoma State

Posted in OSU on January 15th, 2010 by BSN

College football’s top-ranked offensive machine might get a tune-up whether it needs one or not.

Radio station KGOW (1560 AM) reported Friday that Dana Holgorsen, who assembled the Houston Cougars’ system that produced the most points (42.1) and yards per game (563.4) in the nation this past season, has accepted a job as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State. The radio station said Holgorsen is bringing Kliff Kingsbury, who has spent the past two seasons as the UH offensive quality control assistant, with him to Stillwater, Okla.

Second guessing the Cowboy offensive gameplan

Posted in OSU on January 15th, 2010 by BSN

No, Oklahoma State didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard in it’s final two games (OU and Ole Miss) and now Cowboy fans are letting Coach Mike Gundy hear about it.  Sure, losing Dez Bryant (suspension) and Kendall Hunter (injury) were massive losses to the team and what it was capable of doing.  But there are some unanswered questions about the health of QB Zac Robinson and just how effective he was in those two games.  Should he have played?  Was Gundy too loyal to his three year starter?  Perhaps.  But all of that is water under the bridge now.  Robinson has exhausted his eligibility and now 26 year old Brandon Weeden assumes control over the offense.  You’ll remember Weeden from his comeback victory over Colorado on a Thursday night in Stillwater when Robinson was on the sidelines due to injury.

Dexter McCluster rushed for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the go-ahead 2-yard run on a direct snap with 4 minutes 3 seconds left, as Mississippi beat No. 21 Oklahoma State, 21-7, in a sloppy Cotton Bowl on Saturday in Arlington, Tex.  McCluster, a senior in his final game, also had an 86-yard touchdown run in the second quarter after he had become the first Southeastern Conference player with 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving in a season.
