Peter King Scouts Sam Bradford

Posted in OU on March 4th, 2010 by BSN

From Peter King’s Monday Morning QB column: When I asked NFL scouts and execs about the quarterbacks in this draft, the one word I heard a couple of times about Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford was “frail.” But when I met the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Bradford for an interview at an Indy hotel late Saturday night, he didn’t look frail. He’d bulked up 13 pounds from the Sooners’ season while rehabbing his surgically repaired right shoulder at Athletes Performance Institute in Pensacola, Fla., obviously aware that he was going to get some questions about his physical stature. When we met, I thought I’d be meeting a Matt Ryan clone — a tall kid who needed to fill out. Bradford doesn’t look like he needs to fill out right now. Read more »

Rams to take Bradford #1 overall?

Posted in OU on February 28th, 2010 by BSN

After all the criticism Sam Bradford took for returning to OU for another year, Sammy B may get the last laugh.  The ‘buzz’ from the recent scouting combine (see multiple links below) indicates that the Rams are strongly considering taking a QB (most likely Bradford or perhaps Jimmy Clausen) instead of DT’s Gerald McCoy or Ndamakung Suh with the #1 overall pick.

Conference Realignment Talk: OU and OSU to the SEC?

Posted in Big 12, OSU, OU, SEC on February 17th, 2010 by BSN

Perhaps you have heard all the drama/rumors/speculation about Texas moving to the Big 10 or the Pac-10.  Word is that Texas and the Big 10 have conducted preliminary “talks” and that the Pac-10 has Texas squarely on the ‘expansion’ radar.  Just go a quick google search on “Texas to Big 10″ and you will see numerous articles and varying opinions on the subject.  It’s probably not going to happen, as Texas has it really, really good right now in the Big 12 from a dollars perspective as well as on the field.  But the talk of conference re-alignment has largely left OU and OSU alone, until now.  At least from one writer’s perspective (Andy Staples: SI’s Inside College Football), he proposes the creation of four super conferences with OU and OSU possibly getting the toughest draw – a shift to the SEC.

Sooners rein in quiet, yet talented recruiting class

Posted in OU on February 4th, 2010 by BSN

From Scout.com: The very, very, very quiet monster class was brought in by … Oklahoma. While Texas got some splashy top-ranked prospects like DE Jackson Jeffcoat and LB Jordan Hicks, Oklahoma might have come up with a stronger overall class. The rumors of Bob Stoops leaving for Notre Dame were untrue and the controversy allowed the coaching staff to show why they’re more committed to Oklahoma than ever. The Sooners loaded up with offensive firepower highlighted by QB Blake Bell and receiver Justin McCay from out of Kansas and WR Kenny Stills from California. But the big move was being able to steal Corey Nelson, a speedy safety/linebacker hybrid out from Texas A&M. Nelson had originally committed to the Aggies, but changed his mind on Signing Day in one of the biggest de-commitments of the recruiting season. OU didn’t get Florida’s #1 ranked recruiting class, but it isn’t far off.

Nelson highlights 2010 Sooner recruiting class

Posted in Big 12, OU on February 3rd, 2010 by BSN

It’s not 77-0, but it’s a blow to the Aggies and a major win for the Sooners. That is, assuming you buy into the hype of national recruiting day.  Fact is that we will not know just how good these recruiting classes are for a couple years at the earliest.  It all gives me tired-head, but many, many college football fans just love it.  So here ya go:  Today, “Top 150″ recruit Dallas Skyline LB Corey Nelson switched his commitment to OU after initially committing to Texas A&M.   He’s got size and speed, but will be placed into a deep, deep LB depth chart for the Sooners.  Stay tuned, perhaps until 2012, until we can see just how big this change of heart really was.  Anyway, this bumps up the 2010 Sooner class squarely into a Top 10 class, or so the experts say.

Sooners sign DT Eric Humphrey

Posted in OU on January 9th, 2010 by BSN

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up their 28th commitment on Wednesday night. Fast rising, four-star defensive tackle Eric Humphrey (Mesquite, Texas/Dallas Parish Episcopal) committed to the Sooners after a whirlwind recruitment that heated up in November after an offseason growth spurt that took him from 243 pounds to 275 pounds.
